"Nobody Wants to Be Lonely" is the second single from Ricky Martin's second English album, Sound Loaded, released in 2001. Ricky Martin also recorded this single in Spanish entitled "Sólo Quiero Amarte". Another version of the song was recorded as a duet with Christina Aguilera. The single peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 becoming Martin's 4th Top 20 hit and Aguilera's 6th Top 20 hit. The single also peaked at #4 in the UK and #6 in Australia. The single is most known for being a leader in showing that high profile singles could still do relatively well without major commercial releases (which helped usher in the social norm of current singles in the United States).

"White Flag" is a song by English singer-songwriter Dido, released as the lead single from her second album Life for Rent on September 2003. "White Flag" is the biggest hit of Dido's career. It is considered one of her signature songs, and helped Life for Rent sell over ten million copies worldwide. The song was nominated for the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 46th Grammy Awards, but lost to Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful". It won the Best British Single at the 2004 Brit Awards. The music video, directed by Joseph Kahn features actor David Boreanaz as Dido's love interest. The song ranked on Blender's list "The 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born" at number 317. The single fared very well on the charts around the world, peaking at number one in Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Norway; number two on the Irish Singles Chart, and number eighteen in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song reached number two in the UK being kept off the top spot by the UK top selling single of the year, "Where Is the Love?".

"With Arms Wide Open" is a song composed by the band Creed, featured on the album Human Clay. Scott Stapp wrote the lyrics when he found out with great surprise that he was going to be a father. His son would be named Jagger. "With Arms Wide Open" topped the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for four weeks in July 2000; a month later it reached the U.S. Top 40. In September, it was announced that Creed would release a limited edition single of "With Arms Wide Open" with some profits benefiting Scott Stapp's With Arms Wide Open Foundation to "promote healthy, loving relationships between children and their families". In October, the song hit the top ten and topped Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart for eight weeks. It hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on the issue dated November 11 for one week, and the video topped VH1's top ten tracks of 2000.

"Somewhere Only We Know" is a song performed and composed by English alternative rock band Keane, officially released as their third commercial single, and appearing as the opening track of their debut album, Hopes and Fears as the first single. It is considered also Keane's first major commercial release, becoming one of the greatest hits of 2004 worldwide and peaking on the UK charts at number three during its first week of sale.

"There You'll Be" is a song by Faith Hill, which became a hit single in 2001. Written by Diane Warren, it was featured on the Pearl Harbor soundtrack. The song was also featured on Hill's Greatest Hits album entitled The Hits. Released in May 2001, "There You'll Be" reached a peak of #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 2001 due to strong airplay. No commercial CD single was released because producers wanted to boost sales of the Pearl Harbor soundtrack, which forced the song to chart solely on airplay in the United States. The song also reached #11 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart. The song was a big hit on the Adult Contemporary chart, staying at number one for 12 non consecutive weeks. It was also popular in Canada, as it topped the singles chart in August 2001.
